Overview

 

The cycling tour will lead us around the majestic Julian Alps, eastern Alps mountain range, with the highest peak of Mt. Triglav. We will cycle pictures of alpine landscapes of Bohinj, Pokljuka forests, alpine jewelry Bled, Triglav Valleys, top attractions of Kranjska Gora, Vršič pass which will lead us into Soča Valley.

Clean, unspoiled nature in the Triglav National Park will await us and ask to leave it the same, unharmed, clean and mysterious as it is for centuries.

We will be moving in a green manner, on a bike, sleep in nature-friendly accommodation, eat local food. Even transfer from the hotel to the starting point will be done by train.

You will be guided by an experienced MTB guide, supported by the whole journey. Your luggage will be transferred between stages.

ITINEARY

Day 1 – Welcome in Nova Gorica

Meeting - Instruction

We will meet in a pleasant sport hotel in Nova Gorica. After accommodation, a briefing meeting with all instructions for the upcoming week will follow. 

Day 2 – Nova Gorica – Bohinj – Bled

Distance: 30 km 

         Elevation: 200 m +/- 

Easy

Iconic railway Solkan - Bohinj

Travel by train from Nova Gorica to alpine lake Bohinj. Railway was constructed in Austro-Hungarian Empire with an aim to connect capital Wiena with a port of Trieste. Pictures travel via numerous tunnels and bridges in alpine scenery. Transfer by train is also possible from Ljubljana.

Alpine Lake Bohinj - Lake Bled

Our final station will be Bohinjska Bistrica, where our journey starts. Easy ride to Bohinj lake will follow after bike and gear check.

Bohinj Lake is alpine jewelry of Julian Alps and origine from Ice Age, as a residue of late Julian glacier. Our luggage will be departed to today’s final point.

Our biking path will continue to Lake Bled, Alpine Jewelry, and one of the top Alpine destinations. Today you will have time to admire two lakes, Bohinj and Bled. Riding across the lake and having time to enjoy delicious Bled cake “Blejska Kremšnita”.

Day 3 – Triglav Valleys

Distance: 45 km 

         Elevation: 600 m +/-

Bled - Krma - Mojstrana

Day 2 of our Julian tour will take us in the heart of Triglav National park, day will be full of stunning view on the highest peak of Julian Alps, Mt.Triglav.

Gozd Martuljk - Špik north face panorama

After visiting Triglav valleys, we will continue forward to Gozd Martuljek and admire the panorama of Mt. Špik and his neighbors. Finishing a glorious day in Gozd Martuljk with alpine dinner and accommodation.

Day 4 – Kranjska Gora

Distance: 35 km 

         Elevation: 300 m +/-

Kranjska Gora & Planica Tamar

Kranjska Gora is an alpine outdoor hub with all year activities. We will visit the best points around Kranjska Gora, with Lake Jasna, Zelenci, and Tamar Valley with a pearl of Mt. Jalovec.

Laghi di Fusine

We will jump in Italy for a short time and admire beautiful Fusine lakes, alpine lakes with the majestic north face of Mangart behind.

Our accommodation today will be Kranjska Gora.

Day 5 – Vršič Pass

Distance: 43 km 

         Elevation: 1.200 m +/-

Vršič Pass

Today we will say goodby to north side of Julian Alps and will cross Vršič pass 1611 m high famous alpine passage. Fulfilled with stunning views we will ride in another nature masterpiece, Trenta Valley and the source of alpine emerald river Soča.

Trenta Valley - Lepena

Trenta valley start at the very beginning of the Soča river and continues in slight descend towards Bovec, next outdoor hub of Julina Alps. But our day will not end in Bovec but in another alpine valley of Lepena.  Nice cottage awaits us for dinner and accommodation.

Day 6 – Soča Valley

Distance: 38 km 

         Elevation: 450 m +/- 

Easy-Moderate

Bovec - outdoor paradise

Descend back to the Soča Valley and we are in Bovec, European outdoor water sports center. If in Bovec, you need to try pure water of Soča, so short visit of Soča and possible jump in freshwater awaits before continuing alongside the river towards Kobarid.

Kobarid - town of history

Our day will end in Kobarid, the site of World
War I’s Eleventh Battle of the Isonzo, famously written about in the Ernest
Hemingway novel, A Farewell to Arms. Optionally you can visit the Museum of I World War.

Day 7 – Mt. Krn & Tolmin

Distance: 27 km 

         Elevation: 650 m +/- 

Moderate/ easy

Planina Kuhinja - pastoral sites

Our last day will lead us again to the mountains. Ascend to Planina Kuhinja below the Mt.Krn will put us again in pastoral times (main ascend will be done by van transfer from Kobarid). Crossing pictures spots and many natural and cultural monuments.

Javorca - Tolmin gorge

Our last place in the mountains will be descending pastoral mountain Mederje, passing the Memorial Church of the Holy Spirit on the Javorca plateau, a multi-religious chapel built during World War I for the multi-national Austro-Hungarian soldiers, and a true artistic masterpiece. The route then leads back towards Tolmin, through the spectacular Tolmin gorge and finishing with a dinner in Tolmin. Our last part of the journey will be railway station Postaja 2 km far from Tolmin and drive back to Nova Gorica.
